Within you will find my pervious publications and news on active research and writing.
I am an author with a special interest in local and regional history. I was born and brought up in Oldham and have two grown up sons and five grandchildren. I live in Saddleworth, an area of Oldham, with my husband Nigel.
I followed my interest in history by gaining a MA in The History of the Manchester Region at Manchester Metropolitan University. It was during research for a dissertation that I became aware of the many achievements of Mary Higgs.
Since retirement I have also been able to focus on research and writing. I felt that the work of Mary Higgs should be better known. I needed more information. After extensive research, my book The Amazing Mary Higgs was published in 2011. It is now available on Kindle.
In 2017 our writing group published its second anthology. I contributed a poem, a monologue, a play and two short stories. The anthology, Today's Specials, was shortlisted for the National Association of Writers' Groups competition.
My current project is research for a book about Oldham working class suffragette Annie Kenney. This will be published in 2018 to correspond with the centenary of women gaining the vote. Oldham MPs and local councillors are raising funds to errect a statue of his inspiring woman in the town centre.
I am a member of Manchester and Lancashire Family History Society, Lancashire Authors' Association, Lancashire and Cheshire Antiquarian Society, Oldham and District U3A, Oldham Writers' Café and Oldham Coliseum Theatre Full Circle.
I am pleased to give talks about Mary Higgs and Annie Kenney.
